7 Things We Love About Spring In The New Forest
There’s lots to love about spring in the New Forest National Park and we think you’ll love it too. Spring celebrates life, colour and renewed energy; from blossoming buds and roaming foals to guided walks and opportunities for exploration. It’s a time of new beginnings and discovery, with lots of things to do for everyone whether you’re dreaming up a couples short countryside break or a family getaway. What have you got planned this March?
Spring walks
After a winter hibernating, March is the official start of spring; longer days mean longer to enjoy the New Forest during your spring break. Setting out on scenic walks and trails are a fantastic way to explore the beautiful National Park and we’ve got something ‘we planned earlier’ with the wonderful team at Wild New Forest…
1st March 2025 | Wild New Forest Tour
Right on our doorstep there is an ancient woodland just waiting to be discovered. With Wild New Forest’s expert guides leading you through the stunning landscape this March, you can experience our National Park like never before as they point out the abundant flora, fauna, butterflies, and birds up close. Learn to identify various species, discover their unique ecological roles, and enjoy the beauty of nature on this special guided tour that’s inclusive for all ages and experience levels.
Nature is reawakened and renewed
Watch our woodland awaken; as we enter March we love to see the forest’s wildlife thriving. As milder temperatures set in and the sun feels a little warmer, it encourages the forest flora to blossom, new shoots to burst into life and leaves to unfurl as the forest is transformed.
It’s a joy to watch fawns and foals take their shaky first steps and bird-lovers delight in visiting our National Park for it’s ‘Special Protection’ for birds - a haven for rare and endangered species including the Lapwing, Dartford Warbler, Nightjar and Woodlark.
Spring in the New Forest is still far less busy than summer days, so together with warmer weather makes it a perfect season for outdoor activities like walking, cycling, and wildlife spotting.
For those on a family break seeking adventure, you needn’t bring your bikes, simply hire them nearby. Bike rental is available from New Forest Bikes with family friendly routes to suit all ages and abilities. Bike hire includes helmets, backpack, pump, lock, and toolkit so you can rest assured while you cycle our New Forest trails.
Local attractions!
You needn’t travel too far if all you want to do during your spring break is relax between discovering some great local days out. Whether you’re away with a friend or loved one, or the whole family, we are spoiled for choice when it comes to local attractions. From the entertainment of Paulton’s Park to the far-reaching views of Lepe Country Park, there’s a day out to match everyone’s energy.
In spring we particularly love Exbury Gardens for their collection of woodland, wildflower, formal and herbaceous gardens and more than 22 miles of pathway for endless wandering.
Or you can stay put and spend the day in the village of Beaulieu, and head over to the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu. There are more than 285 vehicles on show and an abundance of fascinating historical displays to take as well as the beautiful Palace House, grounds and gardens and the medieval Beaulieu Abbey – and your attraction ticket includes entry to all of it.
