Paul Gomes
Meet the team
You may have already had the pleasure of meeting our Bar Supervisor, Paul, as one of the Montagu Arms’ longest serving team members, he is a familiar face for our returning guests. Paul has been an integral part of the hotel team for over two decades and is popular with guests and colleagues alike.
"We had a lovely welcome from Paul, who we've met on many occasions in the past." Tracy S, Tripadvisor
In his current role as Bar Supervisor and Duty Manager, Paul is always providing our guests with a high level of customer service whether that be for drinks in the conservatory or Afternoon Tea in the gardens. Hospitality comes naturally to Paul as explained by our guests:
"We were also privileged to be looked after by Paul, the duty manager, who was so attentive, ensuring we were well looked after and making sure everything ran smoothly!" footloosefancyfree7, Tripadvisor
In addition to ensuring great guest experiences, Paul is also responsible for the management of the Library Bar’s extensive drinks list which includes over twenty Gins, three of which are local to the Montagu Arms, and over thirty single malt Whiskys. Paul takes great pride in creating the Library Bar’s Seasonal Cocktail list, his current favourite being ‘Weekend in the Garden’ which is made using Ciroc Mango Vodka, Passion Fruit Liqueur and Pineapple juice, Paul says "it’s a refreshing cocktail, perfect for enjoying in the Montagu gardens".
"Paul served us champagne and nibbles in the garden and his eternal smile made us feel relaxed and welcome." David F, Tripadvisor
Paul started his career journey by studying Accountancy at Tejgaon Collage under Dhaka University, after graduating he moved to Saudi Arabia where he worked for BAE Systems. After 8 years Paul was keen for a new challenge. Drawn to the hospitality industry and with the help from his BAE System manager and mentor John Grant, he sought an opportunity to travel to England and undertake a work experience placement at the Montagu Arms.
Following completion of his placement, Paul knew he wanted to remain at the hotel, which was cemented at his farewell party when after his speech there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. In 1997 Paul earnt a permeant position at the hotel as Assistant Restaurant Manager, a role which he excelled at for the next 11 years before moving into his current role of Bar Supervisor. 24 Years after joining the Montagu Arms Paul says "I fell in love with the Montagu Arms, it’s my second home and we have lovely guests" he also cites the support of colleagues, manager and the owners for keeping him here so long.
Paul has always had a love of food and was in fact a chef for a time too. He enjoys cooking for his friends and his signature dish is a Chicken Biriyani. Paul’s love of the industry also means he enjoys dining out, particularly at The Terrace!
