In the Spirit of Wuthering Heights: The Most Romantic & Dramatic Walks in the New Forest
Nature-lovers, photographers, amateur and pro, ramblers and couples looking for an idyllic break away with the one you love , our Hampshire hotel is the perfect base for New Forest Walks. With wildness, beauty, untamed windswept heathland and miles of ancient woodland on the doorstep; the New Forest National Park offer the romantic backdrop you’ve been dreaming of for your next couple’s hotel break for walks and wanders.
Sometimes you need to take time out just for you; the chance to reconnect, escape the everyday and give the one you love the attention this busy world all too often succeeds in demanding from you.
Our beautiful New Forest channels the moody landscapes of Wuthering Heights, inviting romantic walks under dramatic skies and moments together admiring the golden glow of sunrise through the morning mist.
With the imminent release of Wuthering Heights, the latest take on Emily Brontë’s classic gothic novel, due on Valentine’s Day we thought it apt to extol this place we call home for its storybook landscapes and invite couples to our luxury New Forest hotel to capture nature and romance for themselves.
Brontë’s novel, and the latest reimagining, paints a dramatic landscape of wet, windswept moors and a tale of tragic unrequited love, but our dramatic landscape is far less tragic and far more romantic…
The natural, wild beauty of our National Park does, however, lure many couples seeking romance under the canopies of ancient trees. But unlike Catherine and Heathcliff, after a day of exploring and falling in love with the New Forest’s unique landscape, you can come inside and find warmth and comfort together beside a roaring fire, Champagne in hand as you watch the sunset from the cosiness of our lounge. This is a toast to you, your love and making time to get away together for romantic dinners, walks, lie-ins and late lunches in a most elegant setting.
We know we’re biased but we think that our New Forest is one of the most romantic places for couples and nature-lovers to venture.
One of the most dramatic walks in the New Forest is the Tall Trees Trail at Blackwater Arboretum and Rhinefield Ornamental Drive. It’s a scenic drive to the Blackwater car park; here you can begin the Tall Trees Trail and meet the New Forest’s giants; the Douglas firs and redwoods planted in the 1850s tower above you. Listen to the wind in the canopy high above, take in the beautiful green hues of the moss-covered forest floor as the sun creeps through.
For an unforgettable sunset walk, plan a visit to Hatchet Pond, on the outskirts of our village of Beaulieu. As the largest body of freshwater in the area, the sunset reflections, vast skies and grazing New Forest ponies make for breathtaking photos and a wonderful evening walk.
If you’d rather enjoy romantic morning strolls straight out of your hotel room, simply wander through our quaint village to find the Beaulieu River Path for a peaceful, waterside walk. Walk hand-in-hand, unhurried, relaxed, taking in the stillness of winter’s chilly mornings, the crispness of the air; the joyful birdsong and water wildlife coming and going. Here you can both let go of everything and find a meditative tranquillity that makes it feel as though you’re the only ones in the world.
Then, when it’s time to retreat, with winter’s wind-flushed cheeks and the weariness that can only come from time spent outside in the elements, come inside for lunch, sip Champagne in the garden, and find your very own space, a home from home in one of our beautiful rooms. From a Courtyard Retreat or House Snug, no two rooms are the same at our country house hotel; we’ll help you find just the room you’re looking for to ensure your romantic break for two feels perfect.
